The town mentioned already in 1086 as a wealth market place protected by a water castle. But only three gates have been saved from the original town rampart til now. In 17th century pianists had been invited here and the town became a significant culture centre. The downtown is a protected cultural zone nowadays. The local chateau has been created on a place of ancestral castle from 15th century. It has been often reconstructed and renewed. Around the chateau an English park lies around, which is in present scene of world’s famous Straznicke ethnical festival. Next architectonical monument is a church of Panna Marie from 18th century and a close complex of former monastery. An open-air museum is set in Straznice with hamlet buildings of Southeast Moravia.
